Starlight The Starlight Trilogy #1 edition by Alexandra Richland Literature Fiction eBooks
I managed to read just over 100 out of 600 pages of this story that is drowning in overdrawn details. Jeepers, where's Richland's editor with the red pen? I got bored with the over descriptive details of every single setting not to mention the executive summary of Marie's new 7-year contract with Starlight studios. In just over 100 pages, we established that Marie is 18, moved out of her parents' house and into LA, got a waitress job at a drug store and was discovered by a nice-yet-not-too-deep guy in the movie industry who in a single phone chat is all too keen for Marie's roomie. Sprinkle this with casual appearances of famous entertainers. This is probably a sweet story but it's moving as slow as molasses in January. And I'm flouncing.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ TWO REVIEWS ~~~~~~~~~~~
Laura's 5* review
WOW! What can I say? I loved it, I loved it, I loved it!!
Set in 1950's Hollywood, Starlight introduces you to Maria Bates and sexy bad boy Aidan Evans!
Maria is a shy young women who is spotted by Starlight Studio's and offered a screen test. After changing her name to Elizabeth Sutton (or Beth for short) she is offered her first part as an extra in a film and this is where she first sets eyes on the delightful Aidan Evans.
Aiden is a rebellious troublemaker who has his own demons to fight and also has a habit of pushing everyone away from. Everyone except Beth that is ;-)
Beth and Aiden's friendship blossoms overtime and whilst their careers take off, their relationship hits new levels that could threaten both Beth & Aidens future together forever.
This is a beautifully written book and I love how Alexandra has captured the era of the 1950's. It didn't take me long to read as I couldn't put it down. I was enthralled with the entire story and cannot wait for 2nd book!
Nicola's 5* review
About time!! A love story which is actually about love ) In typical 1950's style, where boy's ask to hold a girls hand or for a kiss on the cheek (how it should be if you ask me) unlike today's world where some people need to get a room!
The story begins with Marie Bates, working in a pharmacy to help pay for her schooling to become a Teacher. She doesn't want or dream of being famous until she is offered the chance of a screen test with Starlight studios, with nothing to loose and everything to gain she agrees to it and is soon whisked to the bring lights of the silver screen.
Marie now called Beth Sutton is filming her first scene when in walks Aidan Evens (sigh) the hot new method actor that everyone one loves to hate. Aidan can't keep his eyes off Beth while filming but is nervous about talking to her (god you have to love this guy) But with it being the 50's it's not right for the girl to make the first move so Beth has to wait...............Will Aidan pluck up the courage to talk to Beth? Or will Beth throw caution to the wind and break the "rules" only one way to find out, BUY this book!!
Alexandra, I love you for writing this book and when you find that time machine I'm coming back to the 50's with you!
I loved the whole book, from the setting to the way in which romances were in those days, it was all very romantic, Asking permission to hold her hand or even for a kiss on the cheek (sigh) I fell in love with Beth right from the beginning, her shy but determined character had me rooting for her. As for Aidan (you know I have that dream look on my face don't you) what can I say, make him real so I can date him!!
I can't wait for my next instalment of Beth & Aidan, if book 2 & 3 are anything like this then Alexandra will have a romance trilogy of the year!!
*This book was given free for an honest review*
Last week I had the privilege of being apart of the blog tour for the sequel to this amazing story by Alexandra Richland. I really wanted to get this review up prior to reviewing the second, but unfortunately I was not able to. But alas since this story is so good, it deserves a proper review and therefore it will get one.
Immediately while reading this book I was enchanted by world that the author has created. The starts off with Marie a recent high school graduate who moved to Los Angeles to follow her dream of becoming a teacher. While she moves there she befriends Olivia who becomes her best friend and her room mate. With out knowing Marie starts working at a Pharmacy which is the most sought after job in all of L.A. Now this isn't the usual sort of Pharmacy that you and I know of today. It is the time of Pharmacy that used to have a diner with in it. It is the most sought after job in town due to the fact that it is also the most frequented by celebrities and the whose who of Hollywood at the time. And everyone who Marie worked with had a desire to make it big - all Marie cared about was making enough money to pay her rent and school.
But alas when Marie is least expecting it the right - hand man to the biggest producer in town sees Marie and is drawn her natural girl next door look and wants her to come in for a screen test. Unsure of what to do, but Marie decides to go in for the screen test anyway. She doubts she will be hired but decides to do it anyway to save herself from having any "What Ifs," later on. But despite her reservations the producer loves her girl next door look and signs her for a 7 year contract.
As she embarks on her new journey in life, she is faced with learning her new craft and all the behind the scenes hoopla that goes into becoming an actress. And as she starts doubting herself and her ability to actually be an actress, she meets Aidan - a new method actor who moved across the country from New York to star in the biggest movie to hit Hollywood to date.
Ridiculed for his type of acting and facing demons from his past that make him not the social person in Hollywood Aidan sees something in Claire - or Beth she now known and Beth for him. Their attraction is instantaneous, but one thing or another keeps them apart. This is just the beginning of a beautiful story with Hollywood glitz and glamour and guest appearances from Ricky Ricardo and Lucille Ball and John Wayne.
There were so many things that I liked about this book and I mention them in detail in my review for Starbright - but there were a couple of things I left out.
I really enjoyed that the romance between Beth and Aiden, is gradual. And that for a good portion of this book they are each others shoulder to cry on, but from afar. It takes them a while to finally admit their feelings for one another and that was refreshing to read about. Another aspect that I really liked reading that I did not mention was the friendship between Beth and Olivia. I really enjoyed reading about how both of them fought to make their dreams to come true.
This is a great book if you are looking to be transported back to the days of Old Hollywood. The author captures that era perfectly. I loved the tortured story between Aiden & Beth. The slow build is definitely worth it )
Not sure where to begin! I was very excited about the release of this book! I am very pleased to report that it didn't let me down!!
Feel in love with the characters and the era! I'm so looking forward to the sequel!!!
Thank you Alexandra Richland for sharing your story and your gift!
I read this book upon a recommendation from a friend on goodreads. I'm so glad I decided to read Starlight. If you love old movies from the glory days of Hollywood this book is a must read! I can't wait to read the next book & follow the stories of Nate,Liv, Connie, Matthew, Beth, & Aidan
